Apple to Halt Sales of the Apple Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2

A dispute over the patent for the blood-oxygen sensor in the two newest Apple Watch models is at the heart of the pause, which partly goes into effect on December 21.

IF YOU WANTED to buy your loved ones the latest Apple Watch for the holidays, you should try to do it before December 21.

The story was first reported by 9to5Mac when Apple put out a statement, which I’ve also now been sent.

Dec 18 (Reuters) - Apple (AAPL.O) said on Monday it would pause sales of its Series 9 and Ultra 2 smartwatches in the United States from this week,

as it deals with a patent dispute over the technology that enables the blood oxygen feature on the devices.

While the review period will not end until December 25, Apple is preemptively taking steps to comply should the ruling stand.”

The suspension follows a long-running dispute with the medical tech company Masimo. As Engadget reports, Masimo sued Apple in 2021.

The company will lodge an appeal in federal court. It can also reach a settlement with Masimo by deactivating the blood-oxygen sensing features

The ban also does not affect any watch before the Series 9. Apple introduced the blood-monitoring features in the Watch Series 6 in 2020;

The company said it would pause sales of the watches from its website starting on Dec. 21 and from Apple retail locations after Dec. 24.
